Summit County TBI
Collaborative Conference Honors Ballinger TBI
Clubhouse
October 21, 2004
The Collaborative’s ninth annual
conference was held at SUMMA Akron City Hospital
on Thursday October 21st. First on the agenda
was presentation of an Award of Excellence to
the Ballinger TBI Clubhouse for “Outstanding
Advocacy and Service to People with Brain
Injury.” Accepting the award were Betty Bacalu,
Director, Nancy Brown, Treasurer, and Dawna
Tenney, Board Member of Ballinger TBI Clubhouse.
The conference addressed issues
related to neurobehavioral changes which occur
following brain injury, including personality
changes, physical changes, and cognitive
changes. Speakers were Dr. Ravi Kant and Scott
Peters, M.S., OTR/L. At the end of the
conference, there was a panel of family members
of survivors of brain injury, led by Dr. DeAnna
Frye. The discussion was on how this life
changing event impacted their relationships and
home, as well as their experiences working with
professionals. One of the members on the panel
was Betty Bacalu.
This was also Ballinger TBI
Clubhouse’s first public exhibit. The Clubhouse
had the opportunity to introduce itself to the
professional community. There was much interest
shown as many people took flyers and information
from the exhibit.
