Brain Injury
Association of Ohio Conference
Columbus, 2005
September 29-30, 2005
The food was great, the friendship
and fellowship were greater at the Brain Injury
Association of Ohio (BIAOH) 24th Annual Conference
in Columbus on September 29 and 30. Following a
continental breakfast, a different keynote speaker
kicked off the day's events. After the keynote addresses,
the group of 300 or so survivors, caregivers, and
others interested in TBI divided into more intimate
groups to concurrently interact with presenters
having such varied and interesting topics as
ConnectMeOhio.org,
Caring For the Caregiver, and EEG Neurotherapy and
Brain Plasticity.
One poignant and heart-warming
program, "I remember Flying Through the Air...",
was presented by U.S. Army SSG Paul Brondhaver,
an American veteran from Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In all, forty hour-long workshops were presented,
liberally interspersed with breaks. The Ballinger
TBI Clubhouse was proud of the fact that two of
their Board members were presenters at the conference.
Charlie Morris presented his saga about “Coming
back from TBI, A Survivor's Story”, and Phyllis
Scott provided her program, “A Lifetime Movie of
the Week?”, a personal story about the complications
that arise when two young TBI survivors fall in
love.
Wednesday evening found early
arrivals from the Ballinger TBI Clubhouse enjoying
the traditional "Welcome to Columbus" pizza party
at the Marriott's great pool facility. Thursday's
events concluded with a late afternoon BIAOH Welcome
Reception and Dance that lasted until evening.
Thanks to the BIAOH, to the courteous
and helpful staff at the Columbus Marriott Hotel,
to the knowledgeable workshop presenters, and to
everyone else who made the stay in Columbus so enjoyable.
In total Ballinger Clubhouse
had 28 in attendance, and we hope that more Clubhouse
folks can attend the next BIAOH Conference, scheduled
for the fall of 2006. Stay tuned to future editions
of the News Link for Clubhouse membership requirement
changes for having conference lodging expenses paid
for by The Ballinger TBI Clubhouse.
