University of
Akron Visits the Clubhouse
September 27, 2005
Master level students from Speech
and Language Pathology and Audiology visited the
Clubhouse on September 27th, along with their professor,
Dr. Roberta DePompei. The students were captivated
by the stories of our members as they recounted
the events of their brain injuries and the changes
in their lives since their accidents. Some common
themes heard from the TBI survivors were loss of
friends and of productive employment, loneliness,
and isolation. Most spoke of a faith in God that
helps them now. The students broke up into small
groups and rotated around the survivors, asking
them questions related to life after brain injury.
It was a very rewarding day for all involved.
