Trip to Pegasus Farms
September 24, 2004
by Rita, TBI Survivor
Our trip to Pegasus Farms was
quite successful!
Jason, Joyce, Donna, Ray,
Dwight, Lynn and I met some people from Joni &
Friends there, and we had a wonderful tour given
to us by a very knowledgeable lady. First we saw
a tape telling us how Pegasus got started. Then
our tour guide took us through the closed arena,
where there is a wall-sized mirror so the horses
can get used to seeing themselves in it.
The open arena has scrap leather
chips on the floor instead of sand, because when
sand was used, it got really dusty and had to be
wetted down all the time. The leather scraps
came from a local tannery, are good for five
years, and are free!
Then we went through the
stables. Each horse has his own stall, and his
particulars are posted on the wall next to it.
Each horse has his own saddle, bridle, lead
rope, and towel and they are all identified by
colors so they don't get mixed up. Everything is
kept in a big tack room. Each horse is brushed
down daily and they spend their nights out in
the fields.
They also had a couple of
miniature ponies—half the size of a regular
horse. They were really cute! The horses are
very well taken care of. We even got to pet some
of them—such soft noses!
We learned a lot of information
about Pegasus Farms from a very good guide.
