Chaplain's Corner

May 2005

Just today, an old friend from high school stopped by the house to see me. I am recovering from shoulder surgery and I was getting tired of being home alone. Mike’s visit reminded me of the summer he spent with me as I was recovering from brain injury 25 years ago. Back then I don’t know what I would have done without the friendship of Mike and others.

Yet, when I later tried to fit back in with friends from before my head injury, I felt I didn’t belong. Their lives were moving along just a step or two ahead of mine. Back in 1980 there wasn’t a brain injury support group, community link, or especially the Ballinger TBI Clubhouse.

It is so exciting and awesome now to see the vision of a meeting place for fellow TBI survivors come to pass. God has been so good to us in the Summit County area.

Now there is a place to call our own to gather, to learn, to grow, and most importantly to develop friendships. Much prayer and hard work has been put forth by many so that Ballinger TBI Clubhouse can make the move to a new home in the community.

One of the hardest things for many is the sense of isolation we feel after a traumatic brain injury. It is true that Jesus promises to never leave us alone. Yet, He also blesses us with friends and companions for life’s journey. With the opening of the Ballinger TBI Clubhouse at Summit Terrace, God’s grace through community is there for all who will come!
